About Us

A comparative study of Political Finance in Africa

This project investigates political finance in sub-Saharan Africa, first documenting the historical evolution of legal regulations and then examining how pressures for legislative reform build among political elites and the impacts of reforms once adopted. In addition, the project will investigate voters’ views to understand their concerns and preferences regarding political party and candidate financing and spending.

UKRI funds the project through a four-year Future Leaders Fellowship (2025-2029), and Dr Sarah Brierley leads it from the London School of Economics. The Westminster Foundation for Democracy serves as a project partner.
